3 Popular Nasal Inhalers to Always Keep in Your Pocket and Where You Can Buy Them

3 min read

I’ve grown quite a collection of fragrances throughout the years. And while I always find myself going back and forth between different perfumes, there’s a particular aroma that I will never get tired of. I’m talking about herbal scents and the smell of essential oils-yes, like Vicks or Tiger Balm.

They’ve always been a great comfort to me, especially whenever I’m sick, and I’m pretty sure many of you (especially if you’re Asian) can relate-it’s called aromatherapy, the use of essential oils for improving your well-being.

Now, let me address the skepticism around essential oils and aromatherapy. I’m not here to tell you that aromatherapy is a cure-all, but it has plenty of benefits. In Thailand especially, the benefits of aromatherapy are clear and are seen through their rampant use of nasal inhalers.

What are nasal inhalers?

If you aren’t familiar with what a nasal inhaler is, these are pocket-sized tubes filled with cotton wicks soaked in essential oils that have holes on top. One whiff of these magic sticks can instantly re-energize the user. It’s why everyone–and I mean everyone, from motorcycle drivers to commuters and even school kids in Thailand has a nasal inhaler in their pocket. It’s a cultural phenomenon (which also explains why most nasal inhalers are from Thailand)!

Other than lifting your mood and masking the scent of pollution in the city, nasal inhalers can also help with allergic rhinitis, fainting spells, and nausea. I make sure to have at least one in my bag or jacket pocket, especially on road trips. These little tubes are the only things stopping me from getting car sick. And when I know I’m about to have a long day at work, I love to keep it next to my coffee to help boost my focus and enhance my mood.

If this sounds like something that you think will benefit you (and trust me it will), here are five of the most popular nasal inhalers you should try and where you can buy them:

3 Popular Nasal Inhalers and Where You Can Buy Them

Pastel Pocket Inhaler

Popular for its pastel colored casing, this nasal inhaler comes in various shades of candy hues, making it quite the stylish accessory, too. It comes with a unique slide and flip mechanism that you usually don’t see in most nasal inhalers so you’ll never have to worry about losing its cap. Oh, and its 2-in-1, with one side being the nasal inhaler and the other side filled with essential oils which you can dab on your wrists or on mosquito bites for instant relief.

Poy-Sian

Ah, the OG 2-in-1 nasal inhaler. Instantly recognizable by its white tube and pastel colored ring in the middle. If you’ve ever been to Thailand, you’ll find stores selling these by the 100s. And yes, despite it coming in several different colors, they all have the same refreshing menthol scent.

Vicks Inhaler

Probably the most popular one in the Philippines is the Vicks inhaler. If you don’t have one yourself, you’ve probably seen it dangling on someone else’s bag or ID thanks to the convenient key chain ring attached to it.

Siang Pure

Another Thai OG is Siang Pure. Siang Pure comes in several forms from the common nasal inhaler to a ball tip, and even a balm. If you don’t want to have to stick a nasal inhaler up your nose you can opt for the ball tip which makes it easier for you to apply it on your wrists, temples, and nape. It’s great for muscle pain relief, too.
